Fix for Sidekick Dialer problem. Courtesy Dr. Bob's Utilities (by way of
Borland Int'l and MultiTech Systems)
Sidekick's auto-dialer has a bug which prevents it from working on some
Hayes-compatible modems that are not completely Hayes compatible (some older
Multi-Tech's for example). In SK.COM, the dialing command used is ATTD
instead of ATDT. To fix the dialer you can use Debug or the Norton
Utilities to patch this. (The older Norton version with SM is easier to
use for this.) The bug is in the 63rd sector of SK.COM at offset 410
(19A hex). Change ATTD to ATDT. If you must use Norton 3.0, have SK.COM on
a floppy and either figure out where the 63rd sector of SK.COM is or
search the file space for ATT. When I did this, Norton's find was off by
one sector. The bug was in the sector AFTER the one Norton pointed to.
Correcting this bug will fix both tone and pulse dialing. To use pulse
dialing the P preceeding the number must be in upper-case.
Have fun,
Dr. Bob
